Product Detail:

Route 66 Today: Chicago, Il. to Needles, Ca. is a book with 223 color images with captions. The journey begins with breakfast at the famous Lou Mitchell's Restaurant in downtown Chicago. They opened three years before Route 66 was commissioned in 1926. It then heads out of Chicago to pass the Gemini Giant in Wilmington, Elvis in Braidwood, and Abraham Lincoln in Springfield before cruising into Missouri over the Chain of Rocks Bridge. Here, Meramec Caverns, the world's largest Rocking Chair, and a beautiful sunset welcomes the traveler. Kansas, with the shortest part of the road (12.8 miles), has a number of great attractions. Oklahoma, home of Cyrus Avery and known as the Father of Route 66, has the only remaining nine foot wide section of original pavement of Old Route 66. It is also known as the Ribbon Road or Sidewalk Highway. Then there is the Blue Whale, the Rock Cafe, and Jesse Chisholm's grave site. Texas holds the claim of having the City of Adrian, the half way point of Route 66 and the MidPoint Cafe. After that the Devil's Rope Museum gives the history of Barbed Wire and don't forget the Leaning Tower of Texas in Britton. The Blue Swallow Motel, Teepee Curios, Crazy Edsels, and the famous Blue Hole of Santa Rosa are all in New Mexico. Arizona is home to the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, and Meteor Crater and of course the Standin' on the Corner Park. The City of Needles ends our journey in California.
