A Bicycle Odyssey: Hope, RI to N. Fort Meyers, Fl. began with a thought from my daughter Donnalisa as she spoke the words; "Wouldn't it be terrific if we all had ten speeds and biked up to Uncle Paul's next year." You see my brother Paul, at the time, resided in Watertown, New York. Everyone thought we were crazy and would never do it. Then on July 13, 1978 we bought three Schwinn, Traveler III, ten speeds and they became nervous. The plan was to practice for a year and then do the journey the following year. Their thought then became; winter will come and the trip would be forgotten. However, we bicycled right through the winter, putting on more than 400 miles. On June 23, 1979 the three of us started the journey to Watertown, New York. It was the trip that would lead to the making of the trip to Florida in 1980.
